RE-GILDING
READ ABOUT THE PROCESS
WHAT IS GOLD-PLATING?
Gold-plating is a technique in which a thin layer of gold is applied to the surface of the jewellery.
This is conducted through electroplating, a chemical process that enhances the material’s appearance and durability while also providing corrosion resistance.
STEPS WHEN RE-GILDING
1. CLEANING
The product undergoes a cleaning process to remove all impurities from the surface that could affect the quality of the plating. Common cleaning steps include ultrasonic cleaning, rinsing with deionized water, and degreasing. Factors such as temperature, time, and chemicals are chosen appropriately for each type of product.
2. GOLD-PLATING
The surface area of the jewellery, as well as the current intensity for the gold plating step, are calculated to ensure the desired thickness of the gold layer after plating. Additionally, the temperature of the plating tank and the plating time are strictly controlled.
3. ANTI-TARNISHING
The gold plating process concludes with an anti-tarnishing step. All products are immersed in the anti-tarnishing tank for 5-10 minutes. This step helps to protect the gold plating layer.
4. QUALITY CONTROL
The QC department inspects 100% of the plated products for appearance and all other technical requirements. X-ray inspections are also randomly conducted to check the plating thickness.
