Preserve the Beauty of Your Jewellery by Treating Them Well

In your daily life, you may not think much about your jewellery and what they are exposed to. However, if you want to maintain their original, shiny appearance, it's a good idea to be mindful of the situations you should avoid. In short, it's about:

  • Avoiding subjecting your jewellery to hard impacts and blows.
  • Ensuring your jewellery doesn't come into contact with chemicals.
  • Avoiding wearing jewellery when bathing or washing hands.
  • Not sleeping with your jewellery on.
  • Storing your jewellery separately in a jewellery box or pouch.

Avoiding Impact, Blows, and Chemicals

Our jewellery is made of 100% recycled sterling silver or 22 karat gold-plated 925 sterling silver. These precious metals are soft and cannot withstand hard impacts. To extend the durability of the plating, it is important to take care of your jewellery. Solid silver jewellery such as our signet rings can easily collide with other surfaces, resulting in scratches. Scratches and dents are not considered damaged jewellery, but rather signs of normal use - however, it's still good to avoid them as much as possible.

Our natural stones are also delicate. Therefore, we encourage you to be careful not to hit hard surfaces, just as you should not expose the stones to chemicals. This will cause the stone in your ring or necklace to lose its luster.

Take Care of Your Jewellery Daily and Store Them Properly

Finally, we also recommend that you take off your jewellery before washing hands or bathing, and when using creams, perfume, or hair products. If you don't, you risk your jewellery losing its beautiful shine and becoming dull.

We also recommend that you take off your jewellery when you sleep and store your jewellery in your IX STUDIOS jewellery box or pouch when not in use. Store your jewellery separately to prevent them from scratching each other or tangling.

Cleaning Your Jewellery - How to Do It

Regardless of whether your jewellery is made of silver or gold, they occasionally need a loving touch to appear as beautiful as possible. Regular cleaning of your jewellery collection is something that many people do not prioritize in their daily lives - but we promise you that you will enjoy your jewellery so much more if you also keep them nice. We recommend that you use IX STUDIOS' jewellery cleaner to clean your jewellery. Find it here.

Common to our jewellery is that they are made of pure precious metals, which means they have the potential to remain beautiful for many years with the right treatment - but also that they cannot withstand just anything. Therefore, you must not use cleaners that are not approved for precisely the type of precious metal you need to clean, just as you should never scrub the jewellery with coarse cloths or cleaning sponges. Therefore, use an approved jewellery cleaner for silver and gold-plated jewellery, such as IX STUDIOS' own.

Tips for the Best Cleaning of Silver Jewellery

It is difficult to avoid silver becoming oxidized and darker in color over time. This happens because silver reacts with the oxygen in the air, so you can reduce oxidation by storing your silver jewellery in a jewellery box. Still, your silver jewellery will eventually need cleaning.

When cleaning your silver jewellery, whether it's cleaning a pair of earrings or a silver chain, the best thing you can do is use our jewellery cleaner and follow the instructions on the package.

If you don't have an approved jewellery cleaner available, we recommend using a soft, damp cloth to remove oils and other dirt. When using a soft cloth, you won't risk making regrettable scratches on your jewellery - remember that silver is a relatively soft material that can get scratched if not treated with a little care.

The Safe Method for Cleaning Gold Jewellery

When cleaning gold jewellery, there is a difference depending on whether you are dealing with a gold-plated piece or a solid gold piece.

Our gold-plated jewellery consists of 925 sterling silver underneath the gold layer. When polishing a gold-plated piece, be careful not to damage the surface and wear too much on the gold plating. Therefore, a good piece of advice here is also to use a soft, damp cloth in the same way as with silver jewellery. It is the gentlest way to clean your jewellery.

If the piece is solid gold, you can add a little dish soap when polishing it with a damp cloth. However, we recommend using our jewellery cleaner - just be extra careful if your piece is also decorated with, for example, gemstones that can be damaged by the jewellery cleaner. Make sure the stone does not come into contact with the cleaning agent, and it is important to remove all traces of the cleaner after polishing with warm water.

The cleaning advice above can be used on all our jewellery because they are all produced in either 100% recycled 925 sterling silver, 22 karat gold-plated 925 sterling silver, or 14 karat solid gold.
